Tonic Jukebox History
WEEK 43 - 12 Days of Jukebox days 11 and 12, followed by guess what?
We start the week with the final two days of our 12 days of Jukebox.
But don't worry, there is something else starting on Wednesday.
But don't worry, there is something else starting on Wednesday.
Monday January 4 (DAY 11: Pipers)
Following complaints that yesterday we had only one lord leaping, we offer you slightly more than 11 pipers:
A Thousand Pipers salute The Chieftain
When looking for pipers I came across a rock band with pipers:
Red Hot Chilli Pipers cover Avicii's Wake Me Up
Tuesday January 5 (DAY 12: Drummers)
1987 Royal Tournament - Massed Bands of the Royal Marines
Growing up, one of the highlights of each year was visiting the Royal Tournament at Earls Court. My brother and I were taken by our father and we always had tickets in the Royal Enclosure, thanks to theatre impresario David Land who had an office above our shop in Wardour Street. The Royal Enclosure was just below the Royal Box and so we had the best seats in the house. For our grand finale you will see drummers and more. I particularly like the exit from the arena. So clever.
And so we bring to an end the 12 days of Jukebox. Hope you enjoyed it.
A new theme starts tomorrow.

Guess the theme
The remainder of this week will feature 4 pieces from musical theatre and opera.
Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to find the link that binds them together.
This link will be revealed on Sunday (on the Tonic Facebook page and by email to all Tonic) as part of an exciting Tonic Choir announcement.
Wednesday January 6
Half a Sixpence
Tommy Steele and Julia Foster in the film of the same name.
For me this song is the epitome of romance.
Performance
Thursday January 7
Dove sono (i bei momenti)
Dorothea Röschmann in the current Royal Opera production
This famous, emotionally charged aria is sung near the end of the third act of Mozart's best loved opera, Le Nozze di Figaro (The Marriage of Figaro). The Countess believes her husband has been unfaithful and in despair asks "Where are those happy moments?"
Performance
Friday January 8
Te Deum (from Puccini's Tosca)
Bryn Terfel in the Royal Opera production
The evil Scarpia privately gloats as he reveals his intentions to possess Tosca and execute her lover, Cavaradossi. A procession enters the church singing the Te Deum. Scarpia admits, "Tosca, you make me forget even God!" as he joins the chorus in the Te Deum prayer. A dramatic end to Act 1.
Tosca was the first opera I saw, aged 13. I was in Paris at one of the world's great opera houses, the Opéra Garnier. The opera itself and the magnificent setting ensured I would be an opera devotee for the rest of my life.
Performance
Weekend January 9/10
Put On Your Sunday Clothes (from Hello Dolly!)
John Wilson Orchestra & Chorus
Hello Dolly is one of Jerry Herman's great contributions to Musical Theatre which also include Mame and La Cage aux Folles.
Here's a feel-good track to end the week. I think we need it.
