Tonic Jukebox History
WEEK 23 - Pick Your Own
This week everyone will be their own curator using formulae and our Tonic Jukebox back catalogue.
Your starting point is to choose a number between 1 and 20. This becomes your key number. Now you need a key day of the week. For this you need the day of your birth. If you don't know the day you can find out at https://www.dayofbirth.co.uk/ Monday August 17 Go to the History page of Jukebox. Your key number gives you the week. Your key day gives you the day of the week. And so you have your piece of music for today. Enjoy! Tuesday August 18 Key number Add 5 to yesterday's key number to generate a new week number. If this takes you beyond 20, subtract 20 from the result. E.g. If your key number on Monday was 17, adding 5 will give you 22. So subtract 20 and your new key number is 2. Key day Move forwards 2 days from yesterday's key day. If this takes you beyond Sunday, start again at Monday. E.g. If your key day was Saturday, moving forwards 2 days will give you Monday. Voilà, a new selection. Wednesday August 19 I thought you might need a break from all this advanced maths. And I will be a bit busy presenting the world's first ever International Online Quiz Cabaret. It's an extract from Shostakovich's opera The Nose, a Royal Opera production. Shostakovich’s surreal and brilliant first opera tells the story of a man who wakes one morning to find that his nose has gone missing. This is something I came across by chance and thought that all you serious opera lovers would enjoy it. As would ENT surgeons, and just about everyone else. Bryan was once cast in The Nose, but he blew it. Not really, but the joke was too good to leave out. Sadly, Bryan's production was cancelled before rehearsals started. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YotMwwixPsw Thursday August 20 First you will need a new key number. Use one or two numbers from your house or flat number (in any order) to come up with a new key number between 1 and 20. For a new key day choose any significant happy day in your life and, if necessary, use https://www.dayofbirth.co.uk/ to identify the day of the week. Then you will have your new key day. Then it's back to he same process as you did last Monday. Simples! Friday August 21 Today you are going to use a random number generator to arrive at your key number and key day. The website you can use is here. You will need to put in three numbers each time - the lower limit, the higher limit and how many numbers to generate, which will always be 1. To get your key number set lower and upper limits to 1 and 20. To get your key day set them to 1 and 7 (1=Monday, 2=Tuesday, etc.) Then click on 'calculate'. And there you will have a completely random selection for today. Then it's back to the same process you did last Monday. Ta Da! Weekend August 22/23 And now for something completely different. Last Tuesday Bryan and I presented the world's first Online Quiz Cabaret in support of St Luke's Hospice. Based on our successful Quiz Cabaret concept that we devised in February 1992 (90 performed for 9,000 people, raising over £100,000), we managed to develop an on-line version. Of course, geography was not an issue and we were delighted to welcome participants from Canterbury, Bath, Edinburgh, Madrid and Toronto. St Luke's were overjoyed that they doubled their target and raised £6,000. We were quite pleased with this prototype event and intend refining it before offering it to other charities. We already have 3 enquiries. St Luke's have developed a 4 minute highlights video to accompany their submission for a National Virtual Fund Raising Award. Here is that video which is currently on Vimeo but will be transferred to YouTube at some point. A reminder for those who took part, and a taster for those who will sign up for the next one. https://youtu.be/8-75kaaRXGo |
