One DAY Special (3.4.22)
100 years ago today, 3rd April 1922, saw the birth of one of my (Philip's) favourite singers/movie stars.
Doris Day (born Doris Mary Anne Kappelhoff) was an American actress, singer, and animal welfare activist. She began her career as a big band singer in 1939. There followed a solo career during which she achieved considerable success. She recorded more than 650 songs and appeared in over 30 movies.
Day died on 13 May 2019, at the age of 97, after having contracted pneumonia. Her death was announced by her charity, the Doris Day Animal Foundation. According to her wishes, the Foundation announced that there would be no funeral services, grave marker, or other public memorials.
Here on Tonic Jukebox we are marking this special day with some of her best known songs.
